This system will send a real-time tsunami alert message to the mobile devices of the residents of Abuyog. This system can also recommend a map of a higher ground that is not reachable by the tsunami. The recommended map will display through the application. It is also possible to message the recommended map through SMS Notification by sending a text form of the name of a location of higher ground.
Evacuate or shelter in place.
The purpose of this system is to upgrade the tsunami alert system of the Municipality Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Abuyog (MDRRMO – Abuyog). Before the MDRRMO received information from PHIVOLCS that there was a possible incoming tsunami, the MDRRMO used the Siren device system for the warning signals. But now, we are developing an early warning device system that will allow residents who are registered on our application to receive warning text messages and push notifications for them to evacuate as early as possible. To come up this application The Philippine Institute of Volcanologist and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported their records of seismicity, frequency of earthquakes in Region VIII from 1900 to 2016 to the Municipality Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Abuyog. Based on the report, the Philippine Trench, located in the Philippine Sea, had many earthquake records before. The upper segment of the Philippine trench located near the Samar, above Leyte, already had lots of records. Also, the lower segment located below Leyte, which are the Dinagat and Siargao Islands, already had many records. However, in the middle segment area near Abuyog, Leyte still has no records of heavy seismicity. According to the report, the middle segment expects a solid magnitude earthquake, strong enough to create a tsunami since both the upper and lower segment already had shaken. If the earthquake occurs, it is already a high alert of a tsunami that will hit the Municipality of Abuyog; however, they cannot predict when.
